5 beaches most tourists miss
The coves the guidebooks skip. All reachable with any Palmera car.

Curaçao has roughly 35 beaches. Most tourists visit three: Kenepa Grandi, Cas Abao, and Mambo. They're popular for good reasons — but they're also busy. These five are quieter, equally beautiful, and every one is reachable with any of our cars, from the Hyundai i10 up.
1. Playa Kalki
Also known as "Alice in Wonderland" by divers. Furthest west beach on the island, just past Westpunt. Crystal-clear water, excellent snorkeling, calm in the lee of the cliffs. A small entry fee gets you in. Drive time from Willemstad: about an hour.
- Road: fully paved
- Best for: snorkelers, divers, early risers
- Facilities: beach bar, showers, small restaurant
- Tip: morning light is best for photos and the water is calmest
2. Playa Jeremi
A small cove near the village of Lagun, tucked into cliffs on the west coast. Well-marked but often empty because it isn't big enough for crowds. Perfect for couples, readers, and anyone wanting a half-day of calm water without paying for it.
- Road: paved main road, a short stretch of gravel before you park
- Best for: couples, readers, swimmers
- Facilities: none — bring your own everything (water, food, shade)
- Tip: arrive before 11am for parking close to the steps down
3. Playa Lagun
In the fishing village of Lagun, next to a small harbor. More "local life" than "postcard beach" — and better for it. Fresh fish at the village restaurants, reef snorkeling straight off the sand, and you'll hear as much Papiamentu as Dutch.
- Road: fully paved
- Best for: lunch-and-swim combos, families, snorkeling straight from the beach
- Facilities: restaurants in the village, small shops
- Tip: order fresh fish at the village restaurants — the catch comes in that morning
4. Playa Forti
North of Westpunt, at the top of dramatic cliffs. Not a swimming beach so much as a cliff-jumping spot and a sunset restaurant. The view is the draw — swim from the small beach below if you want, or drink a beer and watch the sun drop into the sea.
- Road: fully paved
- Best for: sunset, daredevils, drinks with a view
- Facilities: cliff-top restaurant
- Tip: come for a late lunch and stay for sunset — tables book up fast in high season
5. Director's Bay
On the south coast near the refinery — which sounds unpromising, but the water is exceptionally clear and it's almost always empty during weekdays. Small, private-feeling, excellent snorkeling along the rocky edges.
- Road: fully paved
- Best for: a quiet swim, snorkeling along the rocks
- Facilities: minimal — occasional food truck
- Tip: weekdays only — weekends are local family territory
These three we don't recommend with our cars. If that's your trip, let us know and we'll point you to a proper 4×4 rental. Our cars are built for the 35 other beaches — which is most of them.
